Q

How does supplementary vote work ?

A
  • Voters have 2 choices and if a candidate achieves an overall majority they are automatically elected, if this doesn’t happen then the top 2 candidates go to a second round of counting where one is the outright winner

Q

Disadvantages of SV :

A
  • The winning candidate could win on second choice votes
  • They may not enjoy the support of an overall majority
  • It is harder for individuals or smaller parties to fund eg Benita (LD) withdrew her candidacy due to the unpaid nature of the role following it being postponed due to COVID
