What do the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) 2018 require?
Require a minimum EPC of Level E to let a building from 1st April 2018
Where would the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) 2018 not apply?
- If the property doesn’t require an EPC (e.g. Listed building or religious building)
- Where a tenancy is less than 6 months with no security of tenure
- Where a tenancy is more than 99 years
What penalties are there for non-compliance with Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) 2018 for commercial property?
Where breached for less than 3 months:
- £5,000 fine or
- (if greater) 10% of Rateable Value, max fine of £50,000
Where breached for more than 3 months:
- £10,000 fine or
- (if greater) 20% of Rateable Value, max fine of £150,000
