What are MEES?
A
Minimum energy efficiency standards.
Regs apply to all domestic private rented property that are let on specific types of tenancy agreement and legally required to have an EPC.
Since April 2020, can no longer let prpoerties that have a EPC rating below E unless valid exemption. Exemption is high costs - where cheapest recommended measure would exceed £3,500.
C rating from Dec 2025 for all new tenancies and 2028 for exisitng
and maybe even a B by 2030.

What if you don’t comply with MEES?
A
Local authority can serve a landlord with a compliance notice. If breach confirmed, they may receive a financial penalty.
