It is a Qualitative concept that involves improvement and progress. Involves dimensions such as Cultural, social, and economic aspects.
What is sustainability?
- Social progress that meets the needs of everyone (Acess to food, water, shelter, fuel, and healthcare)
- Effective protection of the environment
- Protection of biodiversity
- Minimizing pollution - Prudent use of natural resources
- Minimal use of resources (Energy, water)
- Minimizing waste production - Maintenance of high and stable levels of economic growth and employment.
What is a holistic approach to sustainable development?
The interlinking themes of environment, economy, and society contribute to sustainable development.
What challenges are met when trying to achieve a sustainable society?
- Achieving economic, social, and environmental objectives at the same time.
- Ensuring basic human needs for everyone.
- Meeting the needs of present and future generations.
- Requires action at the individual, local, national and international level.
