PLANNING AND DESIGNING SURVEYS
Six different activities: – datarequirements, – data generation method, – samplingframe, – samplingtechnique, – responserate and non responses, – samplesize.
Probability sampling:
the sample has been chosen because the researcher believes that there is a high probability that the sample of respondents (or events) chosen are representative of the overall population being studied.
Non-probability sampling
means that the researcher does not know whether the sample of people (or events) is representative – each member might have unique characteristics not shared with others in the overall population.
QUESTIONNAIRE SHOULD BE:
brief relevant unambigous specific objective
QUESTION TYPES
open questions closed questions
Content validity
concerned with whether the questions are a well-balanced sample of the domain to be covered.
Construct validity
is concerned with whether we are measuring what we think we are measuring via our questions.
Reliability
whether a questionnaire would yield the same results if given repeatedly to the same respondents.
