- Researchers can determine how to PROCESS the collected data

A
*They cover WIDE areas.
*They reach REACH locations affordably.
*There’s no INFLUENCE from interviewers.
*Respondents can answer in their own SPACE.
*People have more TIME to think about their responses.

Disadvantages - LLIRE

- it takes LONGER for respondents to complete them.
- They often get a LOW response rate.
- Responses may be INCOMPLETE
- Respondents need to be able to READ and write
- level of EDUCATION can have an impact on completion

When to use them - FETI
A
- If respondents are FAMILIAR with the questions and terms,
- If the data needed can be provided EASILY and promptly, like with yes/no answers or checkboxes.
- When there’s enough TIME for the respondents to reply
- When people who know the INFORMATION are ready and able to respond by mail.

When NOT to use them - FITE

- When the researcher anticipates a lot of FOLLOW-UP needed
- When INDIVIDUAL responses are required
- When there is not enough TIME
- When EXTENSIVE and detailed data is required
