Surgical Anatomy Flashcards
SCALP layers
Skin Subcutaneous tissue Aponeurosis (galea) Loose areolar tissue Pericranium
Galea extension
Galea = Temporoparietal fascia / superficial temporal fascia = SMAS layer = superficial cervical fascia of neck
Pericranium extension
Pericranium = Temporalis fascia / deep temporal fascia (two layers 2cm superior to the zygomatic arch) = parotidomasseteric fascia = deep cervical fascia
Facial Nerve Depth
Temporal area - in temporoparietal fascia
Mandible - deep to SMAS layer / in parotidomasseteric fascia
Facial Nerve Bifurcation
Bifurcates 1.3cm from stylomastoid meatus, 1.5 - 2.8cm from the most inferior portion of the EAC
Facial Nerve Crossing
Crosses the zygomatic arch 0.8 - 3.5cm anterior to the EAC, average 2cm
SMAS definition
Superficial musculoaponeurotic system
