Dentoalveolar Flashcards
Nerve Injury Definitions Hyperpathia Anesthesia dolorosa Allodynia Hyperalgesia Sympathetic-mediated pain
Hyperpathia - Pain in response to a repetitive stimulus that has a delayed onset after the initiation of the stimulus, that increases in intensity with continuation of the stimulus, and that continues for a variable period (seconds to minutes) after withdrawal or discontinuation of the stimulus
Anesthesia dolorosa - constant or intermittent spontaneous pain that occurs in an area that has become anesthetic due to peripheral sensory nerve injury
Allodynia - painful response to a stimulus that is ordinarily not painful
Hyperalgesia - overreaction to a painful stimulus
Sympathetic-mediated pain - stimulus-induced pain and localized pallor, flushing, and/or sweating
Nerve-redirection
Great auricular
Sural
Great auricular - adjacent SCM muscle
Sural - adjacent gastrocnemius
Or performing “nerve-capping” with excision of proximal stump and rotation of epineurial flap
