When to start post-surgical anti-coagulation
Usually LMWH within 12 hours of surgery, or fondaparinox (6-8 hrs post op)
Tx for carcinoid syndrome?
Somatostain analogue for the endocrine effects, surgery to remove/ debulk the primary tumour and chemo for the Mets
Radial dislocation and ulnar fracture
Monteggia fracture
Galazzi fracture
Radius fracture with disruption of radioulnar joint
Sx of malignant hyperthermia
Spasms, fever, rigidity after admin of succinylcholine
Tx for malignant hyperthermia
Dantrolene- it is a ryanodine receptor inhibitor and stops abnormal calcium release
Fever post-op day 3-4 is usually
A UTI, it takes more time to develop an abscess (7-10 days) or wound infection
Critically ill patient with right upper quadrant pain
Acalculous cholecystitis
Pre-op abx are given when?
Within one hour prior to surgery
What size to operate on a aortic aneurysm
5-5.5 in men, 4.5 cm in women
