Screening tests/ times and age range?
Pap/Mammograms - every 3 years (starting at age 50 for mammograms unless family hx) (pap starts at 21 years with sexual activity)
*Talk to patients about HPV vaccine
Pap 21-70 (if 3 -ve paps)
Mammogram: 50-74 q2-3 years
Colonoscopy - once every 10 years starting at 50 years of age, or every 2 yrs for the FIT. Not recommended past 75
Should all diabetics be given prophylactic aspirin?
No. Only if also have other risks of CVD (HTN, family hx) - discuss with patient.
Initial Tx for asthma
Low dose ICS intermittent - move to daily if needed more then add ventolin/ LABA
Signs and Sx of cluster headaches
Sharp, piercing and unilateral, with localized parasympathetic sx, and triggered by temperature, watching TV, nitro, allergies, stress, sexual activity, etc. Usually in a pattern of pain-free periods of at least 2 weeks
Civilian or forces pilot discloses to you that he is using amphetamines to stay awake while piloting - what do you do
You must report - they are not allowed in Canadian civilian or military ops (they are in the US Air Force)
Most important risk factor in TIA
HTN (as it is the most common)
A.Fib is also important but less common
Starting a patient on a drug that will immunocompromise them consider test for
TB
Non-dependence causing sleep aid
Eszopiclone
Tx for foot fungus
Terbinafine - but not if on SSRI, Itraconazole - not if on statin, Efinaconzole - topical, best option if no oral. Use topical when mild-moderate
