What is compartment syndrome?

Tx

Complications

A

Increased pressure in close tissue compartment

Causes:

  • prolonged immobilization
  • ischemia ~ burns, crush injury, reperfusion
  • hemorrhaging
  • infection

Presentation

  • pain out of proportion to injury
  • pain wore with passive stretching
  • tense tissues ~ wood
  • pallor
  • pulselessness
  • paresthesia
  • paralysis

Tx fasciotomy

Complications ~ rhabdo
