16
Q

Surface mark the spleen:

A

Posteriorly on the left side, runs from 9th-11th rib (long border on the left runs from 9 - 11), from MAL to erector spinae muscles.

17
Q

Surface marking kidneys:

A

Hilum at L1, 5cm away from midline. Top of kidney lies behind 12th rib. Bottom lies 3-4cm upwards of supracristal plane. Kidney 9-12cm in diameter.

18
Q

Surface marking ureters:

A

Descend from hilum vertically into pelvic region.

19
Q

How would you palpate kidneys?

A

Use left hand to ballot at costophrenic angle, use right hand to push down deeply and palpate inferior pole. Can ask to take deep breath in.

20
Q

Palpation of abdominal wall uses two types of force:

A

Superficial (just fingers) and deep (use flat of hand)

21
Q

Physical examinations have 4 stages in order:

A
  1. Inspection
  2. Auscultation
  3. Palpation
  4. Percussion
22
Q

How would you percuss the liver?

A

Start from 5th ICS and move to costal margin at MAL
