What is the most superior aspect of the lung?
The apex
Where does the apex lie?
just above the first rib superiorly, level with T1
What level is the most inferior aspect of the lung?
T12. This is in contact with the diaphragm
What level is the oblique fissure at?
T4 vertebrae, laterally descends across 4th and 5th intercostal space to reach rib 6.
What level is the horizontal fissure at?
Rib 4
In rest, what level is the base of the lung?
At the 6th costal cartilage
Where does bifurcation occur?
behind the manubrium and sternum anteriorly and at level T3 posteriorly
Where does the right horizontal fissure start and extend to?
4th costal cartilage then moves laterally to the 5th rib. It meets the oblique fissure here.
