Supracondilar fracture of the femur. Flashcards
supracondylar fractures are ore common in whom ?
occurs in young patients with high energy trauma
or low energy trauma such as fall
supracondylar fractures can be what types
exclusively extrarticulary
can extend partial articularly
and complete articular
the extrarticular supracondylar fractures use what classification ?
OTA classification
simple
wedge
multifragmnetray
how is simple supracondylar fractures treated ? wedge and multifragmentory
non operative in rare occasion- long leg cast and hinged knee brace
if there is non displacement
open reduction
internal fixation with dynamic condylar screws with a side compressive plate with locking cortical screw
also can have a lag Screw through the fracture
buttress condylar compression locking plate fixation
or condylar blade plates with locking screws and lag screw through the fracture line
retrograde nailing with two locking screws or spiral blade
wedge and multifragmmetory :
open reduction and internal fixation with dynamic condylar screws
the compression side plate the cortical screws are placed in a bridging plate fashion
buttress condylar compression locking plate fixation
or condylar blade plates in a bridging plate fashion
what are the complications of supracondylar fractures ?
hardare prominence
malunion
nonunion
