Indications for LMA
- Elective intubation (OR, short procedures)
- Cardiopulmonary arrest (less gastric distention)
- Out/Pre-hospital airway management
- Difficult airway (failed intubation, trach needed)
- Conduit for intubation (FastTrach, failed laryngoscopy)
Contraindications for LMA
- Not for conscious or semi-comatose = vomit
- Not for complete upper airway obstruction
- Cannot open mouth
- Upper airway anatomy abnormality
- Obese
- Pregnant
- Upper GI bleed
- Not fasting

LMA complications
- Aspiration of gastric content
- Local irritation
- Upper airwaytrauma
- Laryngospasm or obstruction
LMA sizes
Size 5 - adult male 70-100 kg
Size 4 - adult female 50-70kg
Size 3 - small adults 30-50kg
Size 1 - infant < 5kg
