People felt they had to support war because they are loyal to their country.

Nickname for construction workers who would mainly retaliate against anti-war protestors.
What did Hard Hats do at a New York protest?
Construction workers during their lunch break, wearing hard hats, they beat up protestors.
Who did Nixon address in speech?
In a speech about Vietnam he appealed for support from the ‘silent majority’.
Who was Nixon addressing?
The ‘Silent Majority’. He was implying there was Americans that supported his policies but didn’t actively campaign.
Was Nixons speech successful?
Yes. A poll carried out after showed 77% of people support his policies. Over 50,000 telegrams and 30,000 letters of support went to White House.

Both House of Representatives and the Senate passed resolutions approving of Nixon’s conduct of war.
