indications

A
  1. Oral or plastic surgery of the face or neck
  2. Transitional phase between a clear liquid diet and a fibre restricted/ regular diet
  3. Used in conjunction with dilatation procedures for the treatment of oesophageal strictures
  4. Mandibular strictures
  5. Individuals unable to chew or swallow properly
  6. Oesophageal or pharyngeal disorders interfering normal handling of solid foods.

contraindications

A
  1. Individuals that are lactose intolerant – diet that consist of increased amounts of lactose containing food
  2. Temporary lactose intolerant individuals, usually after surgery, when given a high lactose full liquid diet
  3. Hypercholesterolemic individuals if diet consists of high fat diary and protein sources.
  4. Individuals with dysphagia unable to swallow thin liquids
  5. Not for long term use as it may lead to nutrient deficiencies especially due to it restricting certain food groups and food substances
  6. Not for use in individuals suffering from chronic constipation as it is relatively low in fibre.

  2. Eggs cooked to liquid consistency, egg substitutes, puddings, pasteurised eggs used in eggnog, salmonella-free frozen eggs
  3. All vegetable juices, vegetables pureed in soup
  4. All juices or nectar and Pureed fruits of which the skin is removed
    Milk, milk drinks, milk substitutes, carbonated beverages, cocoa, coffee, eggnog, tea, decaffeinated coffee, milk shakes, instant breakfast, cereal beverages, liquid dietary high protein/caloric supplements, yoghurt drinks, fruit-flavoured beverages
  5. Oils and margarine added to warm liquids
  6. Corn-starch puddings, high-protein puddings, custard, gelatine desserts, ice cream, frozen yoghurt, sherbet, fruit ices, popsicles, Bavarian cream, yoghurt
    Honey, sugar, syrup, glucose, lactose, sucrose, flavourings, chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg
