Superficial Muscles Flashcards
Superficial Muscles of the Back
They connect the upper extremities to the trunk
(vertebral column)
- Lastissimus Dorsi Muscle
- Trapezius Muscle
- Levator Scapulae Muscle
- Rhomboid Minor Muscle
- Rhomboid Major Muscle
- Serratus Posterior Superior Muscle
- Serratus Posterior Inferior Muscle
Latissimus dorsi
Large, triangular muscle
which forms, with the teres
major muscle, the posterior axillary fold.
N-thoracodorsal n.
F-adduction and extension
of the UE
O-spinous processes of the lumbar vertebrae, lower 6 thoracic vertebrae, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest
I-floor of the bicipital tuberosity of humerus
Trapezius muscle
N-accessory spinal (CN
XI), and cervical plexus
F-elevates the shoulder,
pulls the scapula backwards
O-spinous process of C1,
spinous processes of T1- T12, ligamentum nuchae, superior nuchal line
I-lateral 1/3 of the clavicle,
acromion, crest of the scapula
Triangle of Auscultation
Trapezius (lat. border) = medial side
Latissimus dorsi (superior border) = base
Medial border of scapula =
lateral side
Floor = rhomboid major, ICS6
Lumbar triangle of Petit
Iliac crest = inferior border
Lateral border of latissimus dorsi = medial border
Posterior border of external abdominal oblique = lateral border
Floor = internal abdominal oblique *It may be a site for abdominal hernias.
Thoracolumbar fascia (lumbodorsal fascia)
Invests the deep muscles of the back
Provides origins for the latissimus dorsi, internal abdominal oblique, and transversus abdominis muscles
Levator scapulae
N- C3-C4
F- Elevation of the scapula
O- Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C1- C4
I- Superior angle of the scapula and upper medial border of the scapula
Rhomboid minor
N- Dorsal scapular nerve
F- Retract and fix the scapula
O- Spinous process of C7,
ligamentum nuchae, T1
I- Spine of the scapula
Rhomboid major
N- Dorsal scapular nerve
F - Retract and fix the scapula
O- Spinous processes of T2-T5
I- Medial border of scapula
Serratus posterior superior
Deep to the rhomboids.
C7, ribs 2-5, ligamentum nuchae.
N- Supplied by ventral rami of C8-T3
Serratus posterior inferior
Deep to the lastissimus
dorsi
Attaches to the lower 4 ribs
N- Supplied by ventral rami of T9-T11
