Distal Attachment: Iliotibial Tract

Position: Lateral
Orientation: Vertical

Function: Stability of knee, Weak abduction & External rotation

Innervation: Superior Gluteal Nerve (L4-S1)

A

Proximal Attachment: External/ posterior Ilium posterior to post. gluteal line, dorsal sacrum & coccyx, sacrotuberous ligament

Distal Attachment: Iliotibial Tract & Tuberosity of the Femur

Position:Posterior
Orientation: Oblique

Action: Extension, external rotation & abduction?

Innervation: Inferior Gluteal Nerve (L5-S2)

Distal Attachment: Lateral Surface of the Greater Trochanter of the Femur
