Proximal Attachment: Anterior Surface of Sacrum
Distal: Greater Trochanter
Posterior to hip joint (almost horiozontal)
Function:External Rotation
Innervation: Nerve to Piriformis (S1-S2)
Obturator Externus
Proximal Attachment: External Surface of Obturator Membrane
Distal Attachment: Trochanteric Fossa of Femur
Posterior to hip joint and horizontal orientation
Function: External Rotation
Innervation: Obturator Nerve
Obturator Internus
Proximal: Internal Surfacce of Obturator Membrane
Distal Attachment: Greater Trochanter (medial)
posterior to hip joint (horizontal)
Function: External rotation of the hip joint
Innervation: Nerve to Obturator Internus
Quadratus Femoris
Proximal Attachment: Lateral Border of the Ischial tuberosity
Distal: Interochanteric Crest
Post (horiozontal)
Action: External rotation (stabilises the hip joint)
Innervation: Branches from the sacral plexus
Superior Gemelli
Proximal Attachment: Ischial Spine
Distal Attachment: Greater trochanter (medial)
Position: post. Orientation: horizontal
Action: External rotation
Innervation: Branches from the Sacral Plexus
Inferior Gemelii
Proximal Attachment: Ischial Tuberosity ( Upper Aspect)
Distal Attachment: Greater Trochanter (Medial)
Position: Post. Orientation: Horizontal
Action: External Rotation and Abduction
Innervation: Branches from sacral plexus
