Superficial Extrinsic Back Muscles Flashcards
What is the origin of the trapezius?
EOP, medial superior nuchal line, nuchal ligament, spinous process of C7-T12
What are the Superficial Extrinsic Muscles of the Back
Trapezius, Rhomboids Major and Minor, Levator Scapulae, and Longissimus Dorsi
What innervates the trapqzius?
Spinal accessory nerve
Cranial nerve 11
What are the actions of the trapezius
Superior fibers–> elevate
transverse fibers –> retract
inferior fibers –> depress
What are the scapular movements of the trapezius?
elevation, depression, protraction, retraction, upward and downwardly rotation
What is the origin of the rhomboid minor?
nuchal ligament
spinous process of C7-T1
Where does the Rhomboid minor insert?
medial border of the scapular at root of scapular spine
Where does the rhomboid major originate?
Spinous process of T1-T5
Where does the rhomboid major insert?
Medial border of scapular spine to inferior angle of the scapular
What innervates the rhomboids?
Dorsal scapular nerve
What are the actions of the rhomboids
retracts scapular
downwardly rotates glenoid
fix to thoracic wall
Where does the levator scapulae originate?
posterior tubercles of transverse process of C1-C4
what inserts at the medial border of the scapula at the superior angle of scapula
levator scapulae
What innervates the levator scapulae?
Dorsal scapular nerve
Where does the latissimus dorsi originate
Spinous process of T6-T12
thoracolumbar fascia
iliac crest
inferior ribs 3-4
