originates at ribs 3-7 and inserts on the transverse process of C4-C6
Where does the iliocostalis thoracis originate and insert?
originates at ribs 7-12 and inserts on ribs 1-6
Where does the iliocostalis lumborum originate and insert?
originates at iliac crest, sacrum, and thoracolumbar fascia and inserts at ribs 6-12, deep layer of thoracolumbar fascia, and transverse process of upper lumbar vertebra
What innverates the iliocostalis muscles?
spinal nerve C8-L1
posterior rami
What are the actions of the iliocostalis?
bilaterally–> extends spine
unilaterally –> laterally flex to same side
What are the intermediate intrinsic back muscles?
iliocostalis (cervicis, thoracis, lumborum)
longissimus (capitas, cervicis, thoracis)
spinalis (cervicis, thoracis)
