Superficial Back Muscles O/I/A Flashcards
Trapezius (Medial attachment) Origin (5 points)
Origin:
- Medial 1/3 of sup. nuchal line
- external occipital protruberance
- ligamentum nuchae
- spinous proc. of C7
- all thoracic vertebrae
Trapezius (Lateral Attachment) Insertion (3 points)
Insertion
- Lat. 1/3 of clavicle
- Acrominon Proc
- Spine of scapula
Trapezius Actions
Stabilizes, raises, retracts and rotates the scapula
- Sup. fibers elevate
- Mid. fibers retract
- Inf. fibers depress
- Sup + inf. fibers = Rotation
Trapezius Innervation
- Accessory (XI)
- Ventral Rami of C3/C4
Levator Scapulae Origin (medial attachment)
Trans. proc of C1-C4
Levator Scapulae Insertion
Vertebral border of the scapula b/t superior angle and the spine
Levator Scapulae Actions (5)
- Raises the scapula
- And draws it medially
- W/ scapula fixed:
- Bend neck laterally
- Rotates it to the same side
- Extends the neck
Levator Scapulae Innervation
- C3-C4 spinal nerves
- Dorsal scapular nerve (C3-C5)
Rhomboid Major Origin (medial atachment)
Spinous proc. of T2-T5
Rhomboid Major Insertion (lat. attachment)
Medial border of scapula b/t spine and inf. angle
Rhomboid Major Actions (4)
- Adducts scapula
- Retracts scapula
- Elevates scapula
- Rotates scapula
*Does so that the glenoid cavity faces downward & stabilizes the scapula*
Rhomboid Major Innervation
Dorsal Scapular nerve (C5)
Rhomboid Minor Origin
Spinous proc. of C7-T1
Rhomboid Minor Insertion
Medial border of the scapula at the root of the spine (superior part of scapula, sup. to rhomboid maj.)
Rhomboid Minor Actions
Retracts/Stabilizes the scapula
Elevates verterbral border
Rotates scapula to depress the inf. angle
