Axilla and Shoulder Girdle Flashcards
Serratus Anterior Origin
Outer surfaces and superior border of ribs 1-9
Serratus Anterior Insertion
Anterior surface of the medial border of the scapula
Serratus Anterior Action
Abducts, protracts, and upwardly rotates the scapula
Serratus Anterior Innervation
Long thoracic nerve (C5-C7)
Deltoid Origin
Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion and crest of the spine of the scapula
Deltoid Insertion
Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
Deltoid Action
Anterior- flexion, medial rotation, adduction
Middle- adduction
Posterior- extension, lateral rotation, abduction
Anterior & Posterior- work together to abduct the middle portion
Deltoid Innervation
Axillary
Teres Major Origin
Inferior angle of the scapula, dorsal scapula near the angle
Teres Major Insertion
Medial lip of the bicipital groove (lesser tubercle)
Teres Major Action
Adduction and medial rotation of the arm, extends the arm when it is flexed, stabilizes during abduction
Teres Major Innervation
Lower subscapular
Supraspinatus Origin
Medial supraspinous fossa of the scapula
Supraspinatus Insertion
Superior facet of the greater tubercle of the humeru
Supraspinatus Action
Abduction, stabilize and prevent downward displacement of the humerus
Supraspinatus Innervation
Suprascapular
Infraspinatus Origin
Infraspinous fossa of the scapula
Infraspinatus Insertion
Middle facet of the greater tubercle of the humerus
Infraspinatus Action
Lateral rotation, holds the head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa
Infraspinatus Innervation
Suprascapular
Teres Minor Origin
Upper 2/3 of lateral border of scapula, superior to Teres Major
Teres Minor Insertion
Lowest facet of the greater tubercle of the humerus
Teres Minor Action
Lateral rotation, adduction of the arm, holds head of the humerus in the glenoid fossa
Teres Minor Innervation
Axillary
Subscapularis Origin
Medial subscapular fossa of the scapula
Subscapularis Insertion
Lesser tubercle of the humerus
Subscapularis Action
Medial rotation, holds head of humerus in glenoid fossa
Subscapularis Innervation
Upper and lower subscapular nerves
Pectoralis Major Origin
medial 1/2 of clavicle, sternum, costal cartilage of ribs 2-6, aponeurosis of the external abdonimal oblique
Pectoralis Major Insertion
Lateral lip of the bicipital groove (intertubercular groove)
Pectoralis Major Action
Adduction, Medical Rotation, Adduction of the shoulder
Clavicle Portion- flexion of the shoulder
Sternal Portion- extension of the shoulder from the flexed position
Pectoralis Major Innervation
Lateral and medial pectoral nerves
Pectoralis Minor Origin
Ribs 3-5
Pectoralis Minor Insertion
Coracoid process of the scapula
Pectoralis Minor Action
Stabilizes scapula, draws it forward and downward
Pectoralis Minor Innervation
Medial pectoral nerve
