Superfical Structures of the neck:cervical regions Flashcards
What does the SCM region do?
Divides each side of the neck into anterior and posterior regions
What are the four major regions of neck?
posterior cervical region
lateral cervical region
anterior cervical region
SCM region
What separates the two heads of the SCM?
lesser supraclavicular fossa.
What is the floor of the lateral cervical region?
Formed by prevertebral fascia overlying the splenius capitis, levator scapulae, middle scalene, and posterior scalene.
Nerve that innervates the lateral cervical region
spinal accessory nerve.
What is the roof of the lateral cervical region?
Investing layer of deep cervical fascia; platysma
What is the inferior boundary of the lateral cervical region?
Clavicle ( between SCM and the trapizius)
What is the superior boundary of the lateral cervical region?
Merging of the SCM and trapezius
What is the posterior border of the lateral cervical region?
Anterior border of the trapezius
What is the anterior boundary of the lateral cervical region?
Posterior border of the SCM
The roots of the brachial plexus
anterior rami of C5-C8 and T1
Where do the roots of the brachial plexus appear?
between the anterior and middle scalene muscles
Superior attachment of SCM
Lateral surface of mastoid process of temporal bone and lateral half of superior nuchal line
Inferior attachment of SCM
Sternal head: Anterior surface of manubrium of sternum
Clavicular head: superior surface of medial third of clavicle
Innervation of SCM
Spinal accessory nerve
C2 and C3 nerves
