Superfical And Intermediate Layers Of Intrinsic Back Muscles Flashcards
What is the insertion of the splenius capitis muscle?
Fibers run superolaterally to mastoid process of the temporal bone and lateral third of superior nuchal line of occipital bone.
Where is the origin of splenius intrinsic back muscles?
Arises from nuchal ligament and spinous process of C7-T6 vertebrae
Where is the insertion of the splenius cervicis muscle?
Tubercles of transverse processes of C1-C3 or C4 vertebrae
Nerve supply of splenius muscles
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
Action of splenius muscles
Acting alone: laterally flex neck and rotate head to side of active muscles
Acting together: extend head and neck
Origin of erector Spinae muscles
Illocostalis
Longissimus
Spinalis
Arises by broad tendon from posterior part of iliac crest, posterior surface of sacrum, sarco-iliac ligaments, sarco and inferior lumbar spinous processes and supraspinous ligament
Insertion of illocostallis muscle (lateral column)
Fibers run superiorly to angles of lower ribs and cervical transverse processes.
Lumborum, thoracis, cervicis
Insertion of Longissimus muscles
Intermediate column
Fibers run superiorly to the ribs between tubercles and angles to transverse processes in thoracic and cervical regions and to the mastoid process of the temporal bone.
Thoracis, cervicis and capitis
Insertion of Spinalis muscles
Medial column
Fibers run superiorly to spinous process in upper thoracic region and to the cranium.
Thoracis, cervicis, capitis
Nerve supply to intermediate intrinsic back muscles
Illocostallis, Longissimus, Spinalis
Posterior rami of spinal nerves
Action of intermediate back muscles
Acting bilaterally: extend vertebral column and head, as back is flexed, control movement by gradually lengthing their fibers
Acting unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column
Origin of interspinales muscle
Superior surfaces of spinous process of cervical and lumbar vertebrae
Origin of intertransversarii muscle
Transverse processes of cervical and lumbar vertebrae
Origin of levatores costarum muscle
Tips of transverse processes of C7 and T1-T11 vertebrae
Insertion of interspinales muscle
Inferior surfaces of spinous processes of vertebrae superior to vertebrae of the origin
