Superconductivity Flashcards
1
Q
What is a superconductor?
A
A wire or device made of a material that has zero resistivity at and below a critical temperature
2
Q
What happens when a current passes through a supercondudctor?
A
There is no p.d. across it because there is no resistance (V=IR)
3
Q
What heating effect does current have in a superconductor?
A
Current has no heating effect in a superconductor because there is no p.d.
4
Q
What happens is a superconductor material’s temperature is raised above its critical temperature?
A
It loses it superconductivity - the resistance rises
5
Q
What is commonly the critical temperature for superconductors?
A
0 Kelvins (absolute zero)
