summary review Flashcards
1
Q
stage 2: prodromal period
A
showing vague symptoms; unwell/achy
2
Q
convalescence
A
back to normal, like 95% back
3
Q
stage 1: incubation period
A
- disease most likely to be transmitted bc asymp
- S. aureus = 2-4 hours
- influenza = 2-5 days
- varicella = weeks
- HPV = 25 years
Fast: come w preformed toxins: botulinum toxin, S. aureus toxins (no replication required, can’t do anything about it)
Slower: organisms have to replicate or go dormant
4
Q
stage 3: active period + stage 4: decline
A
- active period/illness (stage 3)
- at its peak with pathognomonic symptoms presenting
- less likely to transmit - decline (stage 4)
- getting better, viral load is going down
5
Q
stage 5: convalescence period
A
- sympt minimal
- patients may still be contagious
Carrier states: still able to spread pathogen to others
6
Q
reservoirs of infection
A
- human: sympt, and asympt
- animal: animal/direct/zoonosis, indirect
- non-living/environmental: surfaces, soil, water
7
Q
modes of transmission
A
direct contact
indirect contact
droplet
airborne
