The successors of Aurangzeb were weak and incompetent and could not manage the mughal empire.

1) His rigid religous policies led to revolts amongst the satnamis, the jats, the rajputs and the marathas
2)He spent the last years of his reign fighting a costly war in the south, sacrificing the north of his empire.
How was the maratha revenue administration ?
1) Shivaji abolished jagirdari system and introduces chauth and sardeshmukhi
2) Small kingdoms and dynasties had to pay 25% percent land revenue to the marathas to protect them against maratha raids (Chauth)
3) Kingdoms also had to pay 10% land revenue to keep their heriditary rights
4) This system was patterned on the kathi system
5) Each piece of land was measured by a rod or kathi

1) Shivaji organised an organised and disciplined army
2) Ordinary soldiers were paid in cash but officers were paid in Jagirs
3) The army consisted of Infantry, Cavalry and Navy
