Suggestiones De Christo Flashcards
Watt
(W)
A unit of electrical power
The product of voltage and amperage, total power output
Amperage
Amp
(I)
A unit of current.
One ampere will flow through a resistance of 1 (ohm) under a pressure of 1 V. (volt)
Volt
(V)
A unit of electrical force.
One volt is required to force 1 A of electricity through a resistance of 1 ohm
Fresnel
A type of lens that has the same optical effect as a plano-convex lens, but has reduced weight and heat retention
(A light that uses a fresnel lens)
(Plano-convex: lens, flat on one side, convex on the other.)
NEMA
National Electrical Manufacturers Association
Defines standards for connectors, ingress protection for electrical equipment in the US, etc
HZ
HZ - AC circuit cycles per second (want to keep it at 60, +/- .2)
OSHA
Occupational Safety and Health Administration
IATSE
International Alliance of Theatrical AND Stage Employees
Single-phase
Any load that is powered from one phase wire and the neutral, or two phase wires.
(Almost all lighting loads are single-phase)
Three-phase
Creates alternating current in three leads–the AC cycle of voltage in each lead is a third of a cycle (120 degrees) apart from the last.
A three-phase power source may be used to power single-phase loads of different voltages by using of the phase wires, or one phase wire and a neutral wire.
(A three-phase load is one that requires all three phase wires. Examples of three-phase loads used in lighting include some xenon ballasts, chain motors, Luminy SoftSun, and 480 V step-down transformers.)
Ground
grounding wire
the green, noncurrent-carrying equipment grounding wire of an AC circuit
Neutral
Grounded wire
The grounded, white, current-carrying wire of an AC circuit
should be mentioned that it’s a return for A/C distrobution system
(Not to be confused with the green “grounding wire”)
IBEW
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers

What is the purpose of a spider box?
Spider box can branch cable runs and also allows you to double pump hot legs in your distribution system
Does a carbon arc have a ballast?
No
According to Christ
What does variable “P” stand for?
Watts
What is a variac?
An AC autotransformer dimmer
A type of variable transformer that can vary voltage below and above line voltage
What is a HID?
high intensity discharge
a type of street lamp
has a ballast
