Page 3 Flashcards
How does AC and DC differ?
DC: flows one direction
Current that does not alternate polarity. Batteries create DC
AC: changes direction periodically
(add to this)
Ohm
(Horseshoe/omega shape)
A unit of electrical resistance equal to the resistance through which 1 volt will force 1 amp
What is a rectifier?
Converts AC to DC
What is an inverter?
Device that converts DC into AC
What does AC stand for?
Alternating current
What does DC stand for?
Direct current
What does HMI stand for?
Mercury (Hg) medium-arc iodide
ERS
Ellipsoidal reflector spotlights
Leko
What does Par stand for?
Parabolic aluminumized reflector
What does it mean when a genny goes online?
The genny has begun to power the cable run
Which of the following metals isn’t acceptable for ground?
Aluminum
Copper
Cast Iron
Steel
Cast iron = no dice
Ground: aluminum, copper, steel = acceptable
There are 2 potentiometers located on a genny. What are they used for?
Voltage and Hertz regulators
Can adjust either - crank up voltage to make up for line loss, bring Hertz to within +/- .2 of where it needs to be (usually 60)
Why is it important to keep a genny balanced?
Unbalanced loads keep the genny from running smoothly.
Puts a strain on the genny, wears it out. Can force it to suddenly shut down
Why is a GFCI important and when would you use them?
GFCI protects circuits and against electrical shock. To be used near water
What is the first thing you should do while doing a tie-in?
Make sure there are no loose pieces of metal on or around the box that could fall into the conductor
Then Contact a licensed electrician
Meter the box
strain relief
Get a spotter with a 2x4
