ear wax infection - otitis media/externa middle ear effusion E tube dysfunction perforated TM

SSNHL causes
A
90% idiopathic infection - meningitis, HI, mumps Meienre's disease ototoxic medications MS migraine stroke acoustic neuroma cogan's syndrome

cogan’s syndrome
A
autoimmune condition causing inflammation of eyes and inner ear

Ix
A
audiometry
MRI or CT

Q
what audiometry result is needed to establish diagnosis
A
loss of at least 30 decibels in 3 consecutive frequencies

Mx
A
immediate ENT referral for assessment within 24hrs
Rx underlying cause
steroids if idiopathic
