What is the difference between drug use and drug misuse?
Drug use is using drugs for medical purposes, while misuse is the use of non-medical drugs, or too much of a medical drug.
What are physiological changes? Psychological changes?
Physiological changes are changes in body function, while psychological changes are changes in brain function.
What are the meanings of recidivism, tolerance, physical dependence, habituation, and withdrawal?
Recidivism: When a druggist or smoker, after quitting, becomes re-addicted. Tolerance: The need for more of the drug to receive the same effect. Physical Dependence: Having to depend on the drug in life. Withdrawal: When one stops taking a drug. Habituation: Loss of a drug that people depend on.
What are five reasons why people may use drugs?
Curiosity, Rebellion, Peer Influence, Peer Pressure, Think It Will Make Problems Go Away, Escape From Problems, To Look Cool, Their Family Does It.
What body system is most damaged by smoking.
Respiratory.
What are two respiratory diseases and one non-respiratory diseases that are caused by smoking?
Lung Cancer, Bronchitis, Heart Diseases, Emphysema.
How does the marijuana of the 21st century differ from that of the 1960’s?
Marijuana today is made from multiple places, and have varying levels of THC.
How does marijuana interfere with driving ability?
Distorts time and space within the mind, interferes with good judgement making, and abilities to think quickly and make good decisions.
What is amotivational syndrome?
A syndrome after drugs in which there is a lack of motivation and energy.
Which three skills were affected by marijuana? In Marijuana Alert, what was learned from the study of monkeys?
Intelligence, Athleticism, and Hand-Eye Coordination. From the monkey experiment, it was learned that the monkeys introduced to marijuana lost over 40% of their pregnancies, but their offspring had no physical abnormalities.
Is alcohol a depressant or a stimulant? What system does it affect?
Depressant. Nervous.
What are inhibitions? What part of the brain controls them, as well as judgement, tact, thinking, and involuntary motor skills? How does alcohol affect them? Why do people think that alcohol is a stimulant?
Inhibitions are actions that people should not do. The cerebrum. Alcohol stops the cerebrum from keeping inhibitions, and causes people to act the ways they shouldn’t. Because people think that it makes the drinkers freer.
Why is chugging dangerous? (What does the brain stem control?)
Because drinking too much alcohol can lead to the brain stem not working correctly, and therefore the body may not be able to make vital actions.
What are three reasons why men and women are different when “holding their alcohol”?
The amount of fat in the body, the size of the drinker, and the amount of alcohol-eating enzymes in the stomach.
How much alcohol is in the bodes of men and women who both weigh 100 lbs.? Does the BAC% increase equally for males and females?
0.08% for males, 0.09% for females. No.
