Why isn’t AIDS listed as an STI?
Because it is caused by another STI’s and is not one on its own.
What type of antigen causes AIDS?
HIV Virus.
Can HIV be eliminated with antibiotics? Why or why not?
No, because HIV is not caused by a bacteria, but a virus.
What are some precautions that a sexually active person can take to reduce the risk of getting HIV?
Make sure that their mate doesn’t have HIV, use a condom.
What system is impaired if a person has AIDS?
The Immune System.
What are three ways that some infectious diseases can be transmitted but which are NOT ways of becoming infected with HIV?
Through infected animals, contaminated water, contaminated tools, sharing utensils.
How can a person be infected with HIV?
Through intercourse, through pregnancy, through infected blood transfusion.
What is the usual cause of death in an AIDS sufferer?
Opportunistic infections, or other easily destroyed diseases.
Is it safe to donate blood in a certified blood center?
Yes.
Why is sharing blood needles such a likely source of AIDS?
Because the HIV virus may be contained in the blood within the needle, and the other may receive the disease through the transfusion.
