Immunity Flashcards
What is passive immunity, what are two ways to get it, and how long does it last? Passive Immunity?
Active Immunity: Having an immunity already in your body. Catch a disease, Vaccine. It lasts for many years. Passive Immunity: Having an immunity put into you. Placenta/Birth milk, Injection of antibodies. It lasts a few months.
Bacteria and viruses can both be called germs or _____. They both cause _____ diseases.
Pathogens. Infectious.
What are the roles of antigens, T-lymphocytes, B-lymphocytes, Memory cells, and antibodies?
Antigens: To grow inside the body and reproduce to damage the other body systems. T-lymphocytes: Helper cells that help B-cells. B-lymphocytes: To create antibodies. Memory Cells: To remember previous diseases, so that the disease is easier to destroy the next time it is caught, and make antibodies for them. Antibodies: To link antigens together, so that they can be more easily destroyed.
