When does one use the present subjunctive tense?
- After
- no pienso que
- no creo que
- espero que
- quizas
- cuando (when referring to a future action)
- antes de que
- depués de que, if referring to a future event
- en cuanto - If the person performing the action is different from the one making the request e.g. Quiero que tú hables español.
Tidbit: uses the stem of the “yo” form in the present tense.
Conjugate hablar in the present subjunctive.
yo hable
tú hables
él/ella/Ud. hable
nosotros hablemos
vosotros habléis
ellos/ellas/Uds. hablen
Conjugate vivir in the present subjunctive.
yo viva
tú vivas
él/ella/Ud. viva
nosotros vivamos
vosotros viváis
ellos/ellas/Uds. vivan
When I return from the bakery we will make dinner.
Cuando yo vuelva de la panaderia haremos la cena.
We will have breakfast together before you go to the beach.
Desayunaremos juntos antes de que vayas a la playa.
I will sleep after we chat.
Dormiré depués de que charlemos.
I don’t think you know the answer.
No pienso que sepas la respuesta.
I don’t think that she’s taller than me.
No creo que ella sea más alta que yo.
I hope he gives you a hug every day.
Espero que te dé un abrazo todos los días.
Maybe he’s angry.
Quizás él esté enojado.
I want you to come tomorrow.
Quiero que vengas mañana.
We’ll play after you pack your bags.
