Ask patient to point to site of pain
Palpate main site

How long?

A

What point of the injury cycle
What depth of treatment- acute=less depth, chronic=more depth
Ice or heat? Acute inflammatory- ice
Gives idea of how well they will respond to treatment- explain that often symptoms do not change within the session with an acute injury

How did it start?

A

Micro or macro trauma
Tells me whether person needs biomechanical assessment
Macro trauma- will not require biomechanical input
Macro- tells us MOI, does it need further investigation
Micro trauma- trigger questions about lifestyle e.g. sleeping, work

A

New injury? Or has it been going on for a long time, gotten worse recently?
Is it a reoccurring problem, why have they now decided to get treatment?
Helps build up a history, help form management plan
Long lasting problem- likely more adhesions, contractures, imbalances, weakness etc
