Orthotic Flashcards
1
Q
Use of orthotic device
A
Retains the angular osseous relationship between the rearfoot and forefoot throughout the gait cycle
Allows only the normal range of pronation at the correct time and prevents abnormal pronation
2
Q
Orthotic for uncompensated foot
A
Orthotic will be built for shock absorption, accommodate the arch, control the calcaneus with a heel cup.
- this is the most destructive foot type as the foot mechanics cannot absorb stress causing irritation up the kinetic chain
3
Q
Other points
A
Not all biomechanical injuries require an orthotic
Always assess the kinetic chain
A common compensation is increased pronation at mid stance- can fit an orthotic and achieve neutral at mid stance
