All sentences in English have a subject (a naming part)
and a predicate(object) (a doing part)verb
Explain: Subject,Object,Verb in a sentence.
Subject - The person or thing doing the action
Object - The person or thing affected by the action,
to work out the object ask the question who
or what after the verb.
Verb - The action of the sentence
Predicate always contains a verb eg:
was
wanted
Which is the Subject and which the Predicate?
- He wanted egg and toast
- Peggy won the prize
Subject

Predicate
- wanted egg and toast
- won the prize
Find the subject, the object and the verb in each sentence.

Sometimes you can replace a group of words with one word that has the same meaning eg:
Peggy claimed the prize that was made of gold
Peggy claimed the golden prize
Meeks just read the answer card, these are examples of how to replace a group of words with a single word
a) Would you like the red apple of the green one?
I like red apples better. (now gets replaced with one
word)
I prefer red apples
b) Peggy held out her hand and took the prize.
Peggy accepted the prize.
