subglottal system Flashcards
thoracic cavity
chest - lungs are in here
trachea
windpipe - connects thoracic cavity to laryngeal system
rib cage
in front of lungs
diaphragm
muscle underneath lungs
intercostal muscles
muscles in between each rib
pulmonic
airflow initiated by lungs
egressive
outwards airflow from the vocal tract
inhalation
diaphragm lowers and intercostal muscles expand to make the rib cage move upwards and outwards-the thoracic cavity grows larger - decreasing the air pressure so the lungs fill with air and expand
exhalation
diaphragm and intercostal muscles relax, exerting a gentle pressure on lungs forcing the air out
which stage of sound production is subglottal associated with?
initiation - setting the airflow in motion
