phonation Flashcards
nil phonation
glottis is either fully abducted (open but soundless) or fully adducted (closed eg glottal stop)
breath phonation
wide open glottis but with enough airflow to create turbulence
whisper phonation
small opening at the back of the glottis with enough air to cause turbulence
voicing
vibrations in the vocal folds caused by subglottal pressure forcing the v folds apart and elastic recoil bringing them back
creak phonation
low frequency vibrations of the front of the vocal folds, wide irregular striations
falsetto
longitudinally stretched vocal folds to create high frequency noise, glottis often left open resulting in whispering
breathy voice
vocal folds relatively far apart but enough air passes through to generate turbulence and vibrations
whispery voice
voiced but only in a small opening at the back of the glottis - turbulence and vibrations
