What is the purpose of this surgery?
A
To decompress the impingement of the rotator cuff

How many points of incision are there and what are they for?
A
- Posterior: Arthroscope
- Lateral: Arthroscopic Burr
- Anterior: For GHJ assessment and as an outflow

Describe the procedure
A
Removal of the inferior aspect of the acromion and the acromial attachment of the coraco-acromial ligament

What are the complications?
A
- Axillary nerve injury
2. Failure to completely decompress

Are there any precautions/limitations for rehab?
A
No

Physio: Pre-op
A
Teach scapula setting

Q
Physio: 0-2 weeks
A
- Sling in situ for 48 hours
- Teach active assisted exercises for GHJ
- Lateral rotation exercises with a stick
- Isometric rot cuff exercises
- Elbow, wrist and hand exercises
- Scapula setting exercises

Physio: 2-6 weeks
A
- Progress rotator cuff exercises and scapula stabilization exercises

Physio: 6 weeks - DC
A
- If full function is returned then DC
2. If sports person - progress to sports specific exercises

Milestones
A
Week 2:
AROM and PROM back too 75% or above
Week 6:
AROM and PROM back to preoperative range
