Q

what is a colligative property? example?

A
  • property is that is based on the NUMBER of particles in a solution. (so, its NOT based on the size, shape, or charge)
  • example: OSMOTIC pressure
  • example: if we say there are 10 BOYS at a party, there are 10 PENISES. We don’t care about size, or shape (at least not in this case)

Q

tonicity is? example?

A
  • the ability of a molecule to ATTRACT H20 and change cell VOLUME (think hypertonic)
  • example: HOT boys have more tonicity to ATTRACT girls to a party

A
  • special name for PLASMA protein to pull H20 into INTERSTITIUM
  • example: if you advertise free alcohol, people will come

Q

whats our analogy for these stupid renal things?

A
  • you run a famous strip club/prostitution place in las vegas.
  • 20% of the guys walking down your street stop by your place (renal blood flow)

Q

clearance?

A
  • amount of something excreted per minute
  • example: calculate how many blow jobs your girls give per hour!
    ==> 10% of guys that COME IN get blow jobs (GFR)
    ==> your girls fill 100 orders per hour
    ==> your CLEARANCE is 10 blow jobs per hour

Q

fractional excretion?

A
  • % of something that is excreted in one pass
  • example: % of guys that pay for a lap dance?
    ==> 50 guys walk inside
    ==> 25 order a lap dance
    ==> fraction is 25/50…. 50%

Q

filtered load?

A
  • amount of something you get to filter into Bowmans space
  • example: how many single guys can you get to come inside your building?
    ==> you get 100 people in your place per minute (GFR)
    ==> 75% of people in las vegas are single men
    ==> you can get 75 single guys inside!
