Q

why is interference pattern minimas not zero?

A

amplitude of wave decreases the further a wave travels.
waves through slit travel diff distance ∴ have diff amplitude ∴ minimas form

Q

well how can we conserve momentum but not Ek in inelastic collisions?

A

momentum is mv (v is linear) whereas Ek is 0.5mv^2 (v is squared) therefore direction of v isn’t relevant in ek. so for example they can be moving in oppo directions so mv subtract.

Ek can be lost by going to sound or maybe stored in the object when it deforms etc

Q

reduce material and modal disperison?

A

Use monochromatic light so speed of pulse constant.`
Use of shorter repeaters so that the pulse is reformed before
significant pulse broadening has taken place.
Use of monomode fibre to reduce multipath dispersion

Q

radioactive vs irradiation?

A

to become radioactive nucleus has to be affected which radiation doesn’t do.
ionising radiation only affects outer e-s not nucleus

Q

why place in cooling ponds?

A

bc initially generates lots of heat
bc initially highly radioactive so needs to be screened in cooling ponds.
