Stuff Flashcards
What is the meaning of diffusion?
Diffusion is the process by which of one substance spread out through the particles of another substance
Lighter particles diffuse faster than heavier particles
Lighter particles diffuse faster than heavier particles
What happens when you higher the temp
Diffusion happens faster
How many atoms are element made of
1 type of atom
Compounds
2 or more different atoms chemically bonded together in fixed ratio. Compounds have definite melting and boiling points and can be broken down in chemical reactions.
Mixtures
Made up of more than one type of atom. The atoms are not bonded together. Then can be separated easily by physical means. No definite melting and boiling point.
Atoms
Atoms are particles that make up everything. They are the smallest part of an element that can exist.
Molecules
Are groups of atoms bonded together covalently
g, l, s, aq
gas, liquid, solid, aqueous dissolved in water (in solution)
What is a saturated solution
A mixture of a solid and liquid which has so much solid that no more can dissolve at that temp.
Solubility of a solute
The point at which a solution becomes saturated
Solubility-curve
A graph of solubility in g/100g of solvent.
The y-axis
The temperature
x-axis
What does solubility change with
Temperature
Most substances become MORE soluble at higher temperatures and LESS soluble at lower temperatures.
Most substances become MORE soluble at higher temperatures and LESS soluble at lower temperatures.
If you cool a saturated solution..
Some will crystallise out
