Specialised animal cells Flashcards
Muscle cell
Function: Contract to move bones
Elongated
Contain many mitochondria releasing energy so that they can contract
Sperm cell
Function: Carries Male Genes to the Egg
Streamlined shape for speed
Flagellum that produces swimming movements
Middle piece that contains mitochondria to release energy for swimming
Ciliated epithelial cell
Function: Provides the moving force for the transport of mucus along the airways
Have hairs that wave to push the mucus
Egg cell
Function: Contains Female Genes
Half of the normal DNA in an adult cell
Large nucleus containing female chromosomes
Contain stored food for developing embryo
Red blood cell
Function: Carry Oxygen
Contains haemoglobin for carrying oxygen
Large surface area for absorbing oxygen
Nerve cell (neurone)
Function: Nerve cells transmit electrical signals in the nervous system
They have branched connections
Long and thin so they can send messages up and down the body quickly
