Pain - sternum rub or pinch under shoulders
Unconscious - no response

A

Look, listen, feel
Rise and fall of the chest
Normal or Abnormal

Talking = breathing

Normal breathing rate = 12-18/min

BVM to the rescue if not breathing adequately!

A

If conscious - radial pulse
Unconscious - carotid pulse

A

What are the 2 airway suction catheters?

A

Yankeur - rigid plastic & used to remove secretions from oropharynx or nares under direct vision.

Y Suction - FG12 & FG8 used in endotracheal tubes can clear nares, nasopharynx, oropharynx, stomas or other airway devices.

  • size from centre of the lips to side of the jaw
  • full head tilt
  • triple airway manuovere
  • enter OP airway
  • continue BVM

A

Size up correctly from tip of nose to the earlobe

Lubricate outside of airway

Through right nostril preferably/angle towards the septum

Wiggly slowly

Patency achieved
Remove gently if vomit or gagging occurs
