16
Q

What is the purpose of the Recirc and ventilation fans shutting off when a smoke in forward cargo?

A
  • Prevents oxygen from entering the compartment

- Prevents Halon agent from escaping into the aircraft’s cabin

17
Q

How many extinguishing bottles are installed for the cargo compartments?

A
  • 2 bottles used for both compartments

- 1 high rate and one low rate bottle

18
Q

What is the difference between the high rate and the low rate bottles?

A
  • High rate bottle saturates the compartment immediately

- Low rate bottle maintains saturation over a duration of time

19
Q

How long will the low rate bottle remain active in the compartment>

A

60 minutes

20
Q

Can one bottle be used for one compartment and the other bottle for the other compartment?

A

No. Only once compartment may be selected (FWD or AFT)

21
Q

What happens when a cargo extinguishing button is pushed IF SMOKE HAS BEEN DETECTED?

A
  • High rate bottles discharge immediately
  • Low rate bottle discharges after one minaret if the airplane is in flight
  • If airplane is not he ground (weight-on-wheels) the low rate bottle will NOT automatically discharge
22
Q

During flight, can the low rate bottle be discharged before the minute is up?

A

Yes, by pushing the extinguishing button again

23
Q

How can the low rate bottle be discharged if the airplane is on the ground (weight on wheels)?

A

The extinguishing button must be pushed again

24
Q

Can cargo extinguishing be used IF NO SMOKE IS DETECTED?

A
  • Yes. The high rate bottle extinguishing button must be pushed twice, once to arm the bottle and once to discharge the bottle.
  • The low rate bottle automatically discharges after one minute if in flight
25
Q

How are the lavs protected from fire?

A

Heat sensative extinguishers in the lav waste bins automatically discharge if a predetermined temperature is reached
