Study Guide AP BIo Flashcards
Osmolality
A measure of a certain solute within a fluid.
Hypertonic
More solute
Hypotonic
less concentrated. More diluted
enzyme structure
A protein molecule that is made up of amino acids. The places of the bounds create an active site
allosteric sites
site that an inhibitor can bind to and turn on/off the enzyme
saturation point
the point where things can no longer be saturated
allopatric speciation
speciation that occurs because a species is isolated.
barr bodies
an inactive x chromosome that is present in some somatic cells
Polarity and Molecular density
water is polar causing there to be slightly charged ends. solid water is less dense than liquid water because the molecules push farther apart.
Punctuated Equilibrium
the hypothesis that evolutionary development is marked by isolated episodes of rapid speciation between long periods of little or no change.
secretory pathway
The secretory pathway refers to the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and the vesicles that travel in between them as well as the cell membrane and lysosomes.
Homodimer
a protein composed of two polypeptide chains that are identical in the order, number, and kind of their amino acid residues.
n-termini
The N-terminus is the start of a protein or polypeptide, referring to the free amine group (-NH2) located at the end of a polypeptide.
