Study Goals Exam 2 Week 6 Flashcards
Germ Layers
Embryonic tissues organized in layers
Why are Germ Layers Important to Animal Development and Anatomy?
-Ectoderm gives rise to skin & nervous system
-Endoderm gives rise to lining of digestive tract and organs connected such as the liver
-Mesoderm gives rise to circulatory system, muscle, & internal structures such as bone & most organs
Are you a member of Bilateria? How would you know?
Yes humans are apart of Bilateria because the body is very symmetrical bilaterally
The most primitive taxa of most Bilaterian clades have a worm-like body — what do you think this tells us about body shape and mode of locomotion in the common ancestor of Bilateria?
Enabled them to move quickly, efficiently, and to be very flexible in different environments
Mollusks & Arthropods synapomorphies that have contributed to their success? Why?
-Mollusks: foot, visceral mass(main organ system), mantle(covers the visceral mass)
-Arthropods: segmented body, exoskeleton(hard external skeleton), jointed appendages(between legs & other appendages)
What environmental and life factors do you think select for social intelligence as an adaptation?
-Survival conditions
-Environmental conditions
-Food sources
